Patent Summary

This specification describes technologies relating to anarmored flexible fiber opticassembly.

In one implementation,the fiber optic cable assembly comprises: a non-interlockingarmor, the non-interlocking armor is a spiral tube having anoutside diameter of approximately 1.5 mm-5.5 mm, an innerdiameter of approximately 0.75 mm-5.25 mm and a minimum bend radius of approximately 5 mm, the non-interlocking armor being formed from stainless steel; an innerjacket,the innerjacket having an outside diameter slightly less thanthe inner diameter of the non-interlocking armor, at least onefiber optic fiber; and a strengthening material, the strengthening material being made from aramid fibers and Surrounding the at least one fiber optic fiber underneath the innerjacket.Some implementations also comprise: an outerjacket, theouter jacket having an inside diameter slightly greater thanthe outside diameter of the non-interlocking armor, and a pullmaterial, the pull material being made from aramid fibers, thepull material being positioned underneath the outerjacket andon top of the non-interlocking armor.

In some implementations, the non-interlocking armor canhave one or more of the following: a gap between each concentric ring, the gap is approximately 0.05 mm to 1 mm; athickness of approximately 0.25mm-0.75 mm; and/or a crushresistance of approximately a 100 KGf7 100 mm. The fiberoptic cable assembly can also have an outside diameter ofapproximately 1.65 mm to 5.5 mm.The at least one fiber optic fiber can be a 62.5/125 ummultimode fiber, a 50/125um 10 GOM3/OM4 fiber, a 9/125um single mode G652.D fiber, an 80/125 um single modebend-insensitive fiber.
